Research Trader (Equities)
First Manhattan currently employs a small team of traders and is looking to expand. The Research Trader (Equities) will work closely with the Firm’s Trading desk, the Head of Research, and the investment Research team.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7-10 years applicable buy or sell-side Research Trading experience and will work collaboratively with members of the Trading desk, Research Analysts, and Portfolio Managers to help inform the investment process. The role will entail liaising with sell-side counterparties to provide access and third-party research.
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring and communicating developments in significant Firm holdings
- Authoring and distributing all morning and evening communications to the Firm (macro and market developments, news pertaining to firm holdings and pipeline)
- Gathering and communicating market intelligence in a way that is timely and impactful to the investment process
- Effectively managing relationships with sell-side counterparts to arrange corporate access, conference access, and third-party research
- Executing investment advisory and brokerage orders across all product types, with a heavy focus on US domestic equities
The preferred candidate must:
- Have the ability to communicate effectively -- internally and externally, both verbally and in writing
- Possess a robust network of relationships on the Street
- Be self-motivated and entrepreneurial as well as be able to work collegially and collaboratively with the current members of the Trading desk, the Head of Research, Research Analysts, and Portfolio Managers and their teams
- Have a deep knowledge of equity and (ideally) fixed income markets and corresponding regulatory reporting requirements
The competitive selection process will focus on the candidate’s work experience, demonstrated analytical skills, energy, and personality/temperament.
Compensation:
The position offers cash compensation consisting of a base salary plus a performance-based bonus, depending upon the individual’s ability to impact and enhance the investment process.
